Visit Wainui School and you will be struck by how enthusiastic everyone is about cycling.
Much of this enthusiasm can be explained by the incredible new bike trail the school has around its field and surrounding bush area.
It’s the result of three years of fundraising and planning. Phase two of the project is to buy 40-50 bicycles and a modified storage container to keep them secure.
As Wainui School is rural, it’s not necessarily easy for the students to bring their bikes to school, says principal Gillian Bray.
That’s where Harcourts Tandem Realty Ltd, which has offices in Orewa, Whangaparaoa, Wellsford, Warkworth, Snells Beach and Silverdale, has stepped in, donating $5,900 to the project through the Harcourts Foundation.
Harcourts Tandem Realty Ltd Co-Director Karl Martinovich says it’s a pleasure to be able to give something to the local community, and he and the Harcourts team are keen to have a go on the track when the bikes are purchased.
Gillian Bray says the donation is greatly appreciated, and the bike track is for the entire community to enjoy.
“This is a great community facility. Our fields are closed for parts of the winter, but the bike track will be ready for use all year. It’s so wonderful to see how much fun the children are having.”
