On 1 December 2020, the new Privacy Act 2020 will come into effect. The Act introduces a number of new privacy protections for individuals and obligations for businesses and organisations.
Changes to the Privacy Act in 2020 include mandatory privacy breach notifications, access directions and compliance notices.
Privacy is precious:
- You must now report serious breaches of privacy
- Protect the personal information you hold
- People have the right to access their information
Property managers collect personal information from landlords, tenants, and prospective tenants. We have an obligation to only collect what is necessary, keep the information safe and treat it with care. The technology used by Harcourts offices ensures that the data we collect is safeguarded against loss, misuse or disclosure of personal information.
The Privacy Principles remain largely the same, with one principle added to address the disclosure of personal information outside of New Zealand.
Our property managers have received training directly from the Privacy Commissioner and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. You can be confident that your Harcourts Property Manager is across the changes to the Privacy Act and how they affect the way we do business.
