Imagine being whisked away to Melbourne for three fun-packed days of dining, shopping and relaxing. Sounds pretty great doesn’t it?

Well, for one lucky group of Cantabrians, it was a reality made possible by their Chief Executive Officer Robert McCormack and Managing Director Andy Freeman of Harcourts Grenadier in Christchurch.

Mr McCormack who has been with Harcourts Grenadier for 38 years started this initiative called ‘The Grenadier Survivors Club’ to recognise the team of people who have worked for Grenadier for 10 years or more.  Astonishingly, there was a total combined 1337 years of service on the trip across the Tasman!

McCormack, along with a handful of other longest serving members who have been with the organisation over 25 years, right through from new inductees who have served 10 years, made it 23 staff in total who have just returned from the bright city lights of Melbourne after three fun-packed days.

During their time in Australia, which is the eighth trip to Australia since the ‘The Grenadier Survivors Club’ formed in 2003, the group were treated to a delicious dinner at the magnificent restaurant ‘A Hereford Beefstouw’ situated in one of the unique laneways in central Melbourne.

McCormack says, ’It’s important to recognise the people who have stayed by our side throughout the years. Every second year we organise a trip away to Sydney or Melbourne where we will attend an event such as the Bledisloe Cup or eat at a world-class award-winning restaurant. On the years in-between we stay local in New Zealand and celebrate at a top local restaurant.  We are always thankful to our staff for their loyalty and commitment to Grenadier.’

Executive Assistant to Mr McCormack, Rachel Turner spoke about her first experience of the club. ‘This was my first trip and it was truly a lovely treat to be taken away for three days, feeling valued and appreciated.  The ‘Survivors’ are a great group as we all have a connection by being with Grenadier for such a long time; it was like being away with some of your mates.’
