The free, family-friendly festival takes place in Aotea Square and Queen St on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 October, from midday until 9pm each day, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display on Sunday night. The festival will showcase a mix of performances, from Bollywood to Punjabi, Gujarati to Bharat Natyam, Rajasthani to Hindustani and more, across three areas – the Aotea Square Stage, the Queen St Stage and the Street Zone performances (corner of Queen and Wakefield).
The Harcourts area at the festival will include an innovative and interactive digital Rangoli activation. Aucklanders are invited and encouraged to go along to the Harcourts area and give it a go for themselves. *Rangoli is a traditional ancient Indian art form, originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using materials such as coloured rice, dry flour, coloured sand or flower petals.
Tens of thousands of Aucklanders of all ages turn out each year for the Auckland Diwali Festival, which is a chance to enjoy and experience traditional and contemporary Indian culture.
The Auckland Diwali festival is delivered by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), on behalf of Auckland Council.
