A special bed enabling people with life-limiting illnesses to be cared for at home has been donated to Hospice Taranaki as part of an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation.

Established in 2017, the Hospice NZ Grants Programme has seen more than $114,000 donated to hospices across the country to date. The goal of the programme is to provide hospices with an opportunity to apply for grants to fund key items that directly benefit people using their services.

Paul Lamb, CEO of Hospice Taranaki, says being able to provide portable electric beds to people in their own homes makes a huge difference to people using hospice services and those caring for them. “These beds are often the vital piece of equipment for people who wish to be cared for at home. They provide comfort for the person who may be spending considerable time in bed, and they also make it easier for carers. We’re tremendously grateful to the Harcourts Foundation for supporting our work in this way”.

John Christiansen, owner of Harcourts New Plymouth, says it is an honour to work together with Hospice NZ on this special programme. “Hospices aim to help people make the most of their lives, to live every moment in whatever way is important to them. We have huge admiration for the work they do and for the difference they make in communities across the country”.
