The Harcourts Foundation – the charitable arm of Harcourts – has reached the milestone of $7 million raised since its launch in 2008. That translates to 1078 charities supported, 356 communities impacted, and more than 970 grants made through Harcourts offices in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the USA.
Key community issues such as early childhood education, homelessness, domestic violence, hospice care and healthcare, amongst many others, are being tackled head-on with support from Harcourts team members’ generosity.
“The Harcourts Foundation is making a difference to those that need it most,” Harcourts Executive Director Mike Green says. “It’s during times like a global pandemic where our world needs this kind of support more than ever.
“Over time, Harcourts’ franchises, offices and people have generously created a history of giving through sponsoring and supporting thousands of people in need. Being caring members of the local communities ensures a better quality of life for everyone. It is through the success of our businesses that we provide much-needed support to the communities we live and work in.
“We are all incredibly proud to achieve $7 million raised and given directly back into the communities where we live,” Mr Green says. “Over the past 14 years, hundreds of offices and individuals from the Harcourts network have generously contributed to The Harcourts Foundation via direct donation or coordinating community fundraising events in their local areas.”
The Foundation operates as a 100% charity and is funded through Harcourts’ employee salary sacrifices, ‘off the top’ contributions from sales commissions and through organised fundraisers.
All funds raised go directly to grants due to the volunteer-run structure that sees Harcourts employees donate their time and expertise to oversee and administer the process. No management fees, salaries or running costs are taken from the donation account.
The Harcourts Foundation recently announced a brand refresh to better reflect its relationship with Harcourts, demonstrating the intrinsic link between its purpose of helping others achieve success.

In 2017, the Harcourts Foundation and Hospice New Zealand established the Hospice NZ Grants Programme. This unique program provides member hospices with the opportunity to purchase much needed equipment.
In 2021, more than $30,000 in specialised equipment enabling people with life-limiting illnesses to be cared for in comfort at 12 hospices around the country was distributed.
“With the purchase of a syringe driver and protective case, the Harcourts Foundation has given the gift of comfort and relief to a patient with a life limiting illness”, says Wayne Bloxham, Fundraising Executive for Waipuna Hospice. “In providing symptom and pain relief, Hospice community nurses agree that a syringe driver is the single most important piece of medical equipment they have to help improve a patient’s quality of life. A huge thank you to the Harcourt Foundation for the difference you make.”
Harcourts New Zealand Managing Director Bryan Thomson says, “Given the enormous challenges our communities have faced over the past two years, it’s extremely rewarding for our people across the country to be able to lend them a helping hand through the Harcourts Foundation.”
