Two reclining armchairs that provide maximum comfort for North Shore patients with a life-limiting illness have been donated to Harbour Hospice as part of an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation.

The Hospice NZ Grants Programme was established with support from the Harcourts Foundation in 2017. Since then more than $195,000 has been donated to Hospices for key projects that directly benefit patients and families.

As we approach the festive season we think about where we would like to be and who we would like to spend time with. For people using hospice services this is no different. For many, the opportunity to be at home surrounded by loved ones is a very important part of their end-of-life care.

“Our work touches the lives of families who live across Hawke’s Bay, with the youngest person we’re caring for only one year old and the oldest 101 years old,” said Cranford Hospice CEO, Janice Byford-Jones.

“I was over the moon when I found out,” said Pauline Stratful, supervisor at Redhills Community Kindergarten in Massey, Auckland. “This isn’t just helping us grow some veges. It’s helping us grow our children’s confidence and abilities.”

Redhills is a small, non-profit kindergarten that has been operating for over 45 years. Earlier this year, Harcourts’ Henderson office, Blue Fern Realty, donated $9,000 to the kindergarten through Harcourts’ charitable arm, The Harcourts Foundation.

What do you get when you take 20 local personalities that have virtually no dance experience, put them through a rigorous 15-week training programme and put them in front of full house of over 2,000 people?

You get the highlight of the Rotorua social calendar, Harcourts Dancing for Hospice, formerly Harcourts Dancing with the Stars. The charity event has been going strong for four years thanks to the ongoing support of Harcourts Rotorua and last year over $140,000 was raised for Rotorua Hospice.

The Harcourts Foundation, the charitable arm of Harcourts, has reached the milestone of $6 million raised since its launch in 2008. That translates to 732 charities supported, 356 communities impacted, and over 970 grants made through Harcourts offices in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the USA.  Key community issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, hospice care, education, healthcare and early childhood education, amongst many others, are being tackled head-on with support of Harcourts team members’ generosity.

Two special beds enabling people with life-limiting illnesses to be cared for at home has been donated to Hospice Mid-Northland as part of an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation.

Two syringe drivers have been donated to Te Omanga Hospice to help bring comfort and relief to people living with a terminal or life limiting illness. The donation was made as part of an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation.

A highly specialised hygiene lift chair is helping terminally ill patients have luxurious relaxing baths at Mary Potter Hospice, thanks to an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation.

Otago Community Hospice can purchase a new bladder scanner for its Inpatient Unit this year thanks to a $10,000 donation from an innovative programme funded by the Harcourts Foundation and a further $5495 directly from Otago’s Highland Real Estate Group.
